The roads in Russia have become better, officials say.

The secret of success at Avtodor is the use of cement concrete and mineral binders, as well as various additives in the composition.

The state-owned company Avtodor reported that the road surface has become twice as long thanks to new technologies. The officials say the secret of success is the use of cement concrete and mineral binders.

As representatives of Avtodor reported in the framework of the I International Scientific and Practical Conference «Construction of high-quality and safe roads using cement concrete and mineral binders» at the Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University (MADI), mineral binders are used on subordinate roads to strengthen soils and base layers, cold recycling technologies with strengthening of base layers with mineral and complex binders. Among them are asphalt granulo concrete, organo-mineral mixtures. Also builders use various additives to stabilize the layers.

As a result, according to the official report, the overhaul life for sections of the M-4 “Don” highway was twice the minimum according to GOST.

When repairing, the road workers also turn to new technologies: control of the condition of the cement concrete pavement, the wear layer of the asphalt concrete ShchMA-12 according to the Superpave methodology.

Avtodor is responsible for the majority of toll and federal highways in Russia, while regional roads are run by Rosavtodor. It is noteworthy that the last organization was caught in the summer that the company spends billions on the development of new technologies for road construction, but applies old practices. “In the period 2018–2020, 264 technologies and materials classified as new were applied on federal highways. At the same time, 168 technologies and materials, or 63.6%, are in fact not new, ”the Accounting Chamber said after the audit.

Just a few days before the exposure, Rosavtodor announced a competition for research work on the study of microglass beads. These reflective elements are used in thermoplastic road markings. They are mixed into the composition and applied to the asphalt. The initial contract price was 14.62 million rubles. The existing GOSTs regulating this issue were adopted in 2008 and since then, according to Rosavtodor, have become outdated.
