The cheapest Jeep stopped selling in Russia

The Renegade crossover left Russia at the end of its life cycle.

The cheapest Jeep is no longer sold in Russia. The Jeep Renegade has just disappeared from the official website of the brand, but according to the information from Auto Review, they stopped shipping SUVs of Italian assembly in our country almost two years ago — in November 2019. The reason for Renegade’s departure from Russia is prosaic: the model has run out of the Vehicle Type Approval Certificate. However, they did not renew the document for a reason — the demand for the «younger» model turned out to be catastrophically low.

If in less than four years before the beginning of 2019, Jeep dealers managed to sell more than 800 Renegade SUVs, then in the year of the end of deliveries only 176 cars were registered. Another marker of scanty demand is the timing of the final batch of about two hundred cars. It took over a year and a half to sell off the remnants of the Renegade!

The failure of the Jeep Renegade in Russia was the result of uncompetitive prices. SUVs assembled in Europe even before the «coronavirus» price increase cost from 1.7 million rubles for a front-wheel drive version with a simple 110-horsepower 1.6 and 5-speed «mechanics», and all-wheel drive «Jeeps» with a 140-horsepower turbo engine and an automatic transmission cost more than 2.5 million rubles. If crossovers continued to be supplied from Italy, then the Renegade would have been even more expensive, and buyers did not want to take a SUV the size of a Hyundai Creta at a multiple of the price and put up with an openly budget interior.

The departure of Renegade is unlikely to affect the Jeep business in our country, because the SUV’s life cycle is not coming to an end. However, the general trend is not very encouraging, because last year the Cherokee was excluded from the local range. In addition, supplies

There is also good news — in the first quarter of 2022, the restyled Jeep Compass will reach our market, and sales will start in the spring.
