A month after the Russian presentation of the updated sedan
Externally, the Forte of the Mexican assembly practically does not differ from the Kaliningrad Cerato, except that the front turn signals here are orange, as it should be according to American rules. Inside, there is no big difference either: in particular, in both cases, the instrument panel remained analog, unlike the Korean version of the K3, which received a 10.25-inch display in the top version. The same size has a multimedia touchscreen, available to both Koreans and Americans, but for some reason we are offered a relatively modest eight-inch screen, regardless of the configuration. And we are a little deprived of functionality, while the new multimedia has a wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto interface, as well as advanced navigation with updates over the air.
The powertrain difference remains the same, except that in the US the base engine is no longer matched to a manual transmission. True, there the base is two liters and 150 liters. with., for us this is the most powerful option, and we are deprived of the 1.6-liter 204-horsepower turbo engine that comes with the charged Forte GT (by the way, it is available to the Americans with «mechanics»). But we were more fortunate with the transmission: instead of the classic six-speed «automatic», which is installed on Kaliningrad-assembled cars, in Mexico, a variator or a seven-speed «robot» is used, depending on the modification.
Another feature of the American version is the saturation of all kinds of electronics. The basic Kia Drive Wise complex is able to keep the car in the center of the lane and see pedestrians, preventing a collision, and in the list of options — collision avoidance systems when reversing, tracking approaching cars when opening doors, etc. In addition, adaptive cruise control works in conjunction with navigation, taking into account the steepness of turns and speed limits, and the car is also able to recognize road signs. All this will most likely affect prices, which will be announced a little later.
