Nissan introduced a novelty — an analogue of Renault Kangoo: features, interior, engine

Following the new generation of Kangoo and Mercedes-Benz Citan, a heel from a Japanese alliance partner enters the market. He received a new name Townstar, an abbreviated range of modifications and an autopilot.

Starting with the first generation, Renault Kangoo traditionally receives a twin, produced under the Nissan brand, and the regular change of its name has become the same tradition. So, the first Kangoo of the 1997 model was known as the Nissan Kubistar, in the second generation the model received the impersonal NV250 index, and now it is Townstar. However, the essence of this does not change: external differences from Renault are reduced to symbols, optics and plastic body kit, the main body panels are common. True, in this case, the front had to change not only the headlights, bumper and radiator grill, but also the aluminum hood: a recess for the French diamond was removed from it. At the back, only the filling of the lanterns has changed, and in this perspective it is easiest to distinguish the brothers by the same emblems.

There are practically no differences in the interior, except that the steering wheel hub of the «City Star» has a different shape, and the eight-inch multimedia display can display images from all-round cameras. Basically, the set of equipment is common, the list of options includes an engine start button, a digital salon mirror, dual-zone climate control and adaptive cruise control. However, Nissan claims that its ProPilot system has unique functionality: it can accelerate and brake on its own, start after stopping and keep in the center of the lane even in bends. True, the first to receive this system will be the Townstar EV, which will debut later than the basic petrol version: a «heel» with a 122-horsepower electric motor and a 44 kWh battery will replace the original Nissan e-NV200.

Townstar starts with a single 130 hp 1.3-liter turbo engine, which can be combined with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed «robot». The drive is, of course, only front, the wheelbase is still only standard, 2716 mm, but the version can be either commercial, with a cargo compartment of up to 3.9 cubic meters, or a passenger, with five seats and a 775-liter trunk.
