The architecture of the Lexus LX has remained unchanged — it is still a frame SUV with double wishbone front suspension and a continuous four-link rear axle. Even the transition to the new lightweight TNGA-L platform did not force the Japanese brand to abandon the usual wheelbase length of 2850 millimeters — this figure has remained unchanged since 1995. Overall dimensions have not yet been given, but Lexus emphasized that the entry / exit / ramp angles and ground clearance (225 millimeters) are exactly the same as those of the current LX, so the novelty will not lose its cross-country ability.
Lexus engineers were able to increase the rigidity of the structure by 20% and at the same time reduce the curb weight by 200 kilograms due to the abandonment of steel in favor of aluminum (doors and roof panel, among other things, are made of «winged metal»). The chassis has been redesigned with an emphasis on ride comfort — the shock mounts have changed and the suspension travel has increased by two centimeters. The AHC adaptive air suspension has been seriously upgraded: Lexus assures that the fourth-generation SUV rolls and sways less during sharp maneuvers, accelerations and decelerations, but on bumps the new product is more comfortable than its predecessor.
An electric power steering wheel and an electronically controlled braking system allow you to change the driving character depending on the selected mode. In addition, when choosing off-road presets, the SUV increases ground clearance — with the most extreme settings, the new LX is able to overcome a 45-degree climb and a wade depth of 700 millimeters. A new system of all-round cameras will also help on off-roading — there is a special camera that shows a picture under the front bumper and allows you to see the area hidden by the hood.
Of course, the Lexus LX has all the same systems that are available on the Land Cruiser 300. This means that the buyer can count on the optional inter-wheel differential locks and E-KDSS openable anti-roll bars.
But Lexus did not surprise with the line of power units: although the base SUV received the index «600», the legendary naming hides the familiar 3.4-liter V6 petrol turbo engine, which develops 415 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. Alternative — LX 500 d with 3.3 V6 turbodiesel (300 forces, 700 Nm). Both engines are combined with a 10-speed «automatic» and permanent all-wheel drive system.
The salon of the fourth generation Lexus LX is a step forward relative to the soplatform Land Cruiser 300. The SUV of the premium brand surprised us with the concept with three screens, which is not typical for modern models. Virtual dashboard — basic equipment, air conditioning settings and driving parameters are adjusted through the lower 7-inch touchscreen, and the multimedia system, navigation and information from all-round cameras are displayed on the 12.3-inch touchscreen display at the top.
Lovers of the analog interface will like buttons, washers, knobs and «rockers», but it must be admitted that the Lexus cockpit is more «sharpened» for digitalization than the Land Cruiser 300 interior. SUVs are similar — the difference in finishing materials (for the LX, you can order the finishes in thin leather, wood and metal) and options (for the LX, a Mark Levinson audio system with 25 speakers and paddle shifters are available).
An unexpected move — the appearance of a four-seater version of the LX with a VIP-cabin. In the Ultra Luxury package, the regular rear sofa gives way to multicontour seats with “maximum comfort and support”. The front passenger seat can be moved forward by 1,092 millimeters, freeing up huge legroom. There are adjustments to the angle of inclination of the backrest within 48 degrees, an ottoman, tablets of the media system, a reading lamp and even a touch panel through which you can set up a massage program, activate ventilation and heating. The level of passenger care allows you to compare the new Lexus LX with the Mercedes-Maybach GLS or Land Rover Range Rover Long! However, there are also the usual Lexus LX with five and seven seats.
The abundance of electronic assistants is also impressive. The Lexus Safety System 2.5 complex is included in the basic equipment, that is, all SUVs can recognize pedestrians and cyclists, automatically brake, warn of a frontal collision, and also stay within the selected lane. Adaptive headlights and cruise control also do not require additional payment, but the road sign identification system is only for the top versions. The prerogative of SUVs with the F Sport package is a Torsen rear limited-slip differential, stiffer suspension and 22-inch wheels.
The new Lexus LX will begin sales in key markets in the first quarter of 2022. The configuration and prices will be revealed closer to the start of deliveries, but an SUV of the outgoing generation costs from 7.9 million rubles, and the new product will definitely be significantly more expensive.
