Errors in the CMTPL policy: is it that simple?

Errors in the CMTPL policy are quite common. Can you fix them? What threatens if you travel with such a document?

Inaccuracies sometimes creep into documents. And an auto insurance policy is no exception. When ordering it for the first time, you need to fill in all the columns very carefully. This is important because some inaccuracies can be regarded not just as mistakes, but as fraud. In general, such inattention leads to the recognition of the document as invalid.

Any wrong data is an error. This is the wrong name of the owner, driver (s), policyholder, and the wrong brand of car. Also, these are typos in the passport data of the insured, confused numbers in the details of the insurance company (IC), incorrect license plate number, VIN of the car and any other information that must be provided to complete the document.

If the car is not new, then the data about it and about its owner are already available in the database of the Russian Union of Auto Insurers (RSA). If there is an error in the document, a notification will be sent to the UK with a request to correct the incorrect data. In the case of a new car, inaccuracies in the OSAGO policy will not emerge until the onset of the insured event.

Important. The data held by the Russian Union of Auto Insurers are more valid than those indicated in your insurance policy. The traffic police inspector always compares the information in the CMTPL with the one posted on the PCA website.

There are three reasons: deliberately fraudulent intent, and on both sides, data obsolescence, inattention when transferring information to the PCA, or typos when filling out a document.

The parties cheat solely for their own benefit. Insurers — in order to reduce the amount of insurance payments, policyholders — in order to increase them on the contrary when the «X hour» comes, for example, by reducing the power of their car.

Well, we already wrote about inattention: when filling out documents, it doesn’t matter offline or online, be extremely careful. An oversight can cost money.

Important. If the traffic police inspector discovers a discrepancy between the data in the auto insurance policy and on the PCA website, he can issue a fine. If inaccuracies are revealed upon the occurrence of an insured event and you find yourself to be the culprit of an accident, the insurer will recover the money paid to the victims through the court, or he will refuse to compensate for the damage at all. In the worst case, the document may be considered fake, and the car owner will be accused of attempted fraud.

The CTP policy must be checked immediately after receipt. If you notice an inaccuracy, immediately inform the insurer about it. And don’t forget to fill out a bug fix application.

You do not need to edit anything with your own hand — this is prohibited, the policy will automatically become invalid.

It would seem that online registration of an auto insurance policy excludes the human factor — the system should not miss data errors. But in practice, everything is different. People often make mistakes, and the system cannot recognize this and issues an invalid document. This is due to the incorrect operation of the insurer’s online resource, and to the fact that not all ICs provide verification of the entered data against the PCA databases.

It is possible to correct an error in the OSAGO policy. The main thing is to notice it before the traffic police inspector stops or an accident occurs.
