BMW’s new front-wheel drive micro van fully unveiled before premiere

A shocking nose, matrix optics, a short wheelbase and a focus on hybrids — everything that is known about the second generation of the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer.

The «twos» of the BMW concern are de facto two independent families, in which only the indices are similar. In July, the generation changed

Reporters managed to get an official photo of the microvan from a BMW booklet. The resolution of the picture is not very high, but the general impression of the new product can be made, moreover, the signature indicates the fuel consumption and emissions characteristics for two versions — 223i and 230e xDrive.

A design revolution is not foreseen — the one-volume «two» will retain the same proportions — however, there are many differences in the details. The front doors will have composite glazing (with a triangular flap), the mounting points of the rear-view mirrors will change, the headlights will stretch out and differ in a new pattern, the hood edge height will increase, and the radiator grill will almost double. Demo micro van with M-package, but even the advertising version has wheels with a relatively high profile.

There are no official photos of the interior, but it is clear from the leaks from photo spies that BMW is going to introduce the latest on the 2-Series Active Tourer

With regard to technology, the front-wheel drive «bogie» UKL with a transverse engine is not going anywhere, and the engine range, as before, will consist of three- and four-cylinder turbo engines. According to unofficial data, the base will be a 1.5-liter 157-horsepower version of the 218i, the only diesel version of the 218d will receive a 150-horsepower 2.0-liter engine, and the most powerful hybrid petrol modifications will be 223i (203 horsepower) and 230e xDrive (270 Horse power).

The top two hundred and thirtieth 2-Series Active Tourer will differ not only with outstanding performance for a single-volume vehicle, but also with an electric all-wheel drive system. The «e» index hints at a plug-in hybrid powertrain, and unlike the current version 225xe, the role of the combustion engine will be played not by the 1.5-liter, but by the 2.0-liter turbo.

It will also not do without cuts, since the long-wheelbase seven-seater compact MPV 2-Series Gran Tourer will not receive a successor. But the 2-Series Active Tourer will become noticeably larger — thus, BMW expects to replace two with one model.

A leaked catalog photo means that the second generation BMW 2-Series Active Tourer is ready to debut, and it is highly likely that the new product will go on sale before the end of the year. However, insiders believed that the premiere of the family «two» will take place at the Munich Motor Show, but they were wrong. But the Russian perspectives of the BMW micro van are vague: our one-volume «two» was sold in meager editions, so the absence of a new model in the local range will not come as a surprise.
